Another busy week is almost in the books

Let me start this off with a quick story:
I had to trim the dogs' nails this week.  Ollie is so easy and I can do hers in 5 minutes flat.  I save Donnie for last because I know it'll be a battle.  This night was no different and he put up a good fight.  My dog head butted me and gave me a black eye.  There's a sentence I never thought I'd say.

I feel like if I don't have play dates, trips, or games lined up for Cal that he gets stir crazy, which in turn makes Mama stir crazy.  I try to wear him out in the mornings so that I can get a few precious hours (if the stars align and Davis goes down at the same time) to catch up on stuff around the house and/or drink a Diet Coke and watch a reality show.   I love my precocious, curious, active toddler.....but he wears.me.out.  How can one little being have so much energy?!?!  I can see it in his eyes when he is tired, but he FIGHTS naps.  Such a turkey....

I took the boys to the zoo on Wednesday morn.  They were both up by 6:30am, so I figured we needed a game plan.  Since we have a Zoo Membership and it wasn't supposed to get too hot until noon, I rapidly fed/dressed/packed the three of us and away we went.  Btw, packing to go anywhere with a baby is like packing an overnight bag:  extra set of clothes, diapers and wipes, snacks for him and the big boy, a toy or two, drinks, sunscreen, etc.  You get the point.

We had a great time at the zoo and were basically the first ones there when it opened at 8:30!  I love listening to and watching peacocks.  This guy let us get super close and Cal thought it was hysterical when he yelled "help".

Most of the animals weren't out in the petting zoo part yet, but we still had fun.

The three of us took a selfie break and then resumed our attempts at avoiding the massive piles of goose poop on the walkway.

I love how little kids make friends so easily.  This kid and Cal conversed and ooh'ed and aah'ed over all the reptiles.  Their friendship lasted for 30 minutes, but it was a solid one for that half hour.
Side note:  this kid had great hair.

We got home and my plan worked!  Both of the boys were exhausted and took two hour naps.  It was glorious.  Before nap time, Cal promised me that he'd take a nap.  He said, "I won't squirrel around, Mom.  I'll take a nap."  :)

That night, I packed them back up and went downtown to Riverfest.  There was an event called, "Touch a Truck", which I thought would be a HUGE hit with Cal!  Um, boy was I wrong.

We went to Mitch's office and kidnapped him, then walked down to the event.   The instant we walked into the Truck event, someone honked a horn sooooo loud and we were right beside it.  That ruined Cal's night.  He was over the whole thing from that instant on.  In fact, I kind of was also.  It was so neat to see all of the trucks, but with over twenty trucks blaring a variety of horns and sirens at the same time in a block's radius, we were all ready to leave.  We did get Cal to sit in a few trucks!

This is seriously how Cal positioned himself while he viewed the entire event.   The poor kid was overstimulated.  Davis wasn't a huge fan, either.

Behind the kid with his ears covered is a humongous bulldozer.

The boys are becoming such great friends.  Cal loves to make his brother, who he refers to as "my baby" to others, laugh and smile.  I'm sorry....I can't figure out how to move this right side up and I'm too tired to work hard to figure it out.  :)

Our baby pool is a big hit this summer.

One boy is naked and the other is wearing a diaper.  Which is which?

He wanted to play with big brother's water gun.
