Lately

Topeka had some good rainfall yesterday but luckily no severe weather.  Saturday's tornado near Larned destroyed the house of one of mom's friends.  Yesterday, she went out to help look for their belongings in the nearby fields.  The couple was safe in the basement and all of their horses and dogs survived the storm, too.

I read this in the paper this morning: "Before the weekend, the state of Kansas only had 2 tornadoes in 2013, now the unofficial count is up to 33."

We've been busy packing, but here are a few photos of what else we've been up to lately!

First of all, it's always great to be a Wildcat, but what a year it has been!  THREE Titles in one year!!!  The baseball team beat OU to clench the Title.

We had a Bridal Shower for Suz a few weeks ago, with a Kentucky Derby theme.  I like this pic for many reasons, but especially because it highlights French's mini-hat.

Last year's KSU hat is a bit snug!

Our little nudist escaped outside after his bath.

The next night, he ran out to the living room for his dad's old cowboy hat.

"Ok, fine....I'll wear clothes for the rest of the night."

Tornado time.

According to WIBW, we're expecting some nasty storms here in Topeka tomorrow:

"Very large hail is still the primary threat (greater than 2" diameter). Damaging winds and isolated tornadoes also possible."

However, the big news is the tornadic activity going on in Larned right now!  Here are two pics of the tornado that could be seen just down the street from my folks.  It wasn't a threat in town, but it could be seen easily!  It was located in/around Sanford, which is just west of Larned.

Side note, speaking of Sanford, look at the back side of the storm that rolled through there last week.  There's some crazy weather happening in western KS lately!

These are closer shots of the tornado, near Rozel:

"Yut."

We took Cal to the KSU/KU baseball game on Saturday in Lawrence.   We also may have taught him to say "Yuck, KU" whenever we saw a Jayhawk.  His version was more like, "Yut, Tay U."  ha

He was starting to show some coughing/croup symptoms today and I think this pic shows that he didn't feel the best.

One of Cal's favorite things on Disney is the Choo Choo Soul Train.  He will break out in song first thing in the morn when he wakes up (when he sleeps in our bed, he'll roll over and smile then start singing this), out of nowhere during a bath, while playing outside....you get the picture.  I finally caught him singing PART of it while we were using sidewalk chalk.  He got distracted and was trying to see my phone and what I was recording.....funny kid.

Cal and his croup....Part deux.

We thought we'd fought the croup battle this winter and won, but it came back with a vengeance last night.  Cal had a small cough all day, but it turned into a monster by midnight.  He woke up wheezing and coughing so badly that he began to hyperventilate.  The shower steam trick didn't work so I called the on-call doctor.  He heard Cal coughing in the background and told me to take him to the ER immediately.  Once we got there, our little guy starting vomiting and choking on it.  Once we got into a room, they gave him forced him to take a breathing treatment.  This entailed myself and two nurses holding him down while he screamed, "Mama, no!  All done!  Done!"  It was miserable to listen to, but the treatment worked its sweet magic instantaneously.  He was able to breath again.  Once he relaxed, he laid down on me and Mitch held the DVD player up so we could watch Nemo.  He was so relaxed and almost asleep when he started vomiting again.  He and I were covered in vomit and even Daddy caught a handful of puke at one point.  Finally the doctor came in and I was able to give him a steroid through an oral syringe medication.  THIS little beauty did the trick.  We finally got home around 3:30am and he went straight to sleep.  We had some rough moments today, but how can you blame him?!?  He was so tired and still doesn't feel 100%.  We're hoping that he sleeps soundly tonight.  Thank the Lord for the quick effect of medicine and the hardworking medical staff that took care of our baby boy last night.

Food for Thought

I've been busy cleaning out my cabinets at work, trying to get organized for the move, and I came across this quote that is so fitting for all areas of life.  As an educator in Special Education and as a mother, I LOVE it.

"If you've told a child a thousand times and they still don't understand, then it is not the child who is the slow learner."
--Walter Barbee--

On a side note, I had my first prenatal appointment this morning.  Everything looks great and I saw the baby squirming and bouncing around in the sonogram.  Although I cannot feel its movements yet, he....she....it(????) was quite active!  My anticipated due date is November 24th.  Gobble Gobble!  :)

Is this a sick joke?

Our weatherman couldn't have summed up our week any better: "Saw kids throwing water balloons, spraying hoses, a full blown water fight yesterday with temps almost reaching 90....on Thursday they can have a snowball fight."

We're looking at 1-3" of snow tonight and tomorrow.  We really enjoyed our few days of Spring before Winter came back.
