Busy Weekend!

We had a busy weekend.  Davis and I drove to KC on Friday night and stayed with French.  On Saturday morning,  I was one of 7 friends that helped plan a baby shower for Natalie Brocato.  It was so fun seeing everyone together, celebrating our friend and her Baby B.  My prediction is that it's a boy, for the record!

French and Davis.....she loves a chubby baby.

Bathel was getting some big smiles out of him!

Aunt Hoffma and D, who was in his second outfit of the day.  I took his nice plaid shirt/onesie that he wore in pictures last month and unfortunately I didn't try it on him before I left.  It wouldn't button at the bottom!  I wanted him to wear it so badly that I just tucked it in his jeans......but then his little big belly started to poke out and it looked like he was wearing a thong.  It was time to throw in the towel and go for an outfit change.

Hoff's girls are so darn cute.  Morgan is a sweet little fashionista, meek and mild in nature.  Alex is a shoot-em-straight, blunt little beauty that has a knack for putting together funny outfits.  Before I took this picture, she told me, "He's too heavy.  I think he has to poop again."

After the shower, I stopped by Tessa and Eric's house before driving back to Wichita.  Tessa spoiled our boys rotten and got them several adorable outfits.  They are going to be so stylish this spring!

.....aaaaaaand, here's outfit #3.  I don't know if I wasn't getting his diapers on correctly that day, but he was destroying each outfit I put him in.

When we got back to Wichita that night, we drove straight over to the Ecks' house for a BBQ.  Mitch and Cal were already there and I was SOOOOOO excited to see my little boy and hubby.  Cal jumped on their girls' trampoline for a solid two hours.  He had so much fun with the Eck kids!  We didn't leave their house until about 10pm, so it was a LONG day.

On Sunday, we woke up to beautiful weather.  We went over to the Herrmann's house for another BBQ and Cal played with "my Ty", as he calls him.   Cal wore one of his new outfits from Tessa.  I hadn't realized how all and skinny he was?!?  I haven't seen his long, thin legs in shorts this season and was kind of shocked to see how he'd become a "big kid" since last summer.

Cal and "my Ty"

Davis is such a giggler.  I can't get a great video of him laughing, but here's a small clip.  Our baby boy is so sweet.

3/31/14
It was 78 degrees today.....GORGEOUS weather.  The boys and I played outside after I picked them up.  Davis is wearing the shark hat that Cal wore at that age.

I love this pic.

I gave D his first taste of food tonight and he loved it!  I wonder if he'll sleep even better than usual tonight?!  He usually only gets up around 3:30am (then 6am....then at 7:15 I wake him to get ready for the day), so maybe he'll sleep all the way through tonight.  We shall see....

4 months old

I took Davis for his 4 month shots today.  It never gets easier.  The worst part is that I have to partake by holding him down and talking to him softly to calm him....only for him to be looking in my eyes when he gets stuck.  Ugh.....I'd rather him be in pain for a few hours than experience the awful diseases that we're inoculating him against, though.

I rocked my littlest boy extra long tonight.  His little legs were tender today, but Tylenol and lots of snuggling helped ease his pain.  He was uncomfortable all day, but still engaged in plenty of conversations and offered gobs of smiles and giggles, which is a testimony to his mellow, and overall happy personality.

At his appointment, he weighed 18lbs 12oz (98%ile) and is 26.25" long (90%ile).  He is in size 3 diapers and wearing all 12 month clothing.  It is a little long in the limbs, but he needs the bigger size for his tank-like body!  At this age, Cal was an inch longer, but weighed a pound less.

Four months old already.....time is flying.  Davis is such a mellow man.  He stares people down until they cave and give him a smile or talk to him.  It's pretty funny to watch....he'll track a person until they crack.

Whenever I am exhausted and fighting the battles of motherhood (chasing a naked, ornery two year old through the house at bedtime while holding a tired baby....just for example), I think of the saying that "Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things."   How true this is.  I think of this quote each time I'm frustrated, tired, rushing, short on patience, etc.  I calm myself down by looking at my life and realizing how blessed I am and how years down the road I will yearn for the days my boys were little.  I know I will look back at when my little boy yelled down the stairs at me 10x a night because all he wanted was for me to lay in bed with him a little longer.  At the time, it is frustrating....but in the scheme of things, it's one of the BIG things that I'll miss.

****(Side note:  I say "me" a lot, but Mitch fights the same battles.  I just write from my own perspective and forget to include my hubby.  He takes the brunt of much of Cal's antics because I'm busy with Davis.  He gets tired, too, but is so patient and playful with Cal.....such a good daddy.)***

Bumbo chairs.....they're not just for babies.  I can't believe he can fit in this thing.  His skinny little limbs fit in there better than Davis's!

Cal was reading to me the other night.  It amazes me how he memorizes books. Yes, he was on the potty.  :)

It was so nice out today that we ventured out after school.  It has been incredibly windy the last two days, with steady gusts of 50mph or more.  We didn't stay out too long for that reason.  Cal got in a little golf and Davis and I rooted him on from the deck.

Some funny stories:
Mitch bathed Cal tonight while I rocked Davis to sleep.  Mitch asked him if he liked his dessert and Cal said, "Yes and I want brownies and jelly beans, too!" Mitch told him that too much dessert makes your tummy hurt.  To which Cal replied, "Mama eats A LOT of dessert!"  True story, Cal.....that I do.

The other night, after hooting and hollering, singing and yelling, etc., I went up to urge Cal to settle down and go to sleep.  I told him that I was exhausted and was going to bed.  He then said, "I have an idea!  Maybe you sleep in my bed and then you won't be tired any more!"  He almost had me sold, but I snuck out after he dozed off.

This is the perfect description of our evenings.  I'd also like to add the following: ......to yell that Snoopy fell, that he "sees eyes", that he is "a little bit hungry", that he "needs some more covers", and that he "took his underwear off but put his pants back on".  (The last one is probably my favorite.)

Spring Break, cont.

Ahhhh, Spring Break.  It's time to run around pantless and put plastic bowls on your brother's head.

Our future Wildcats were sportin' their purple for the Big XII tournament.  The game didn't turn out so well for the Cats, unfortunately.

The warmer weather pulled us outside.  While Cal and I played golf, Davis bounced and bounced until his little heart was content.

We went to Larned on Saturday and Cal wasted no time in helping to pull his weight.  He helped Mimi with some chores in the yard.  His role was the stick picker-upper.  Mom was in charge of picking up other, less pleasant things.

While Cal was napping one day, Davis and I got in some QT.  He is getting so strong and can almost sit up by himself!

The next morning, Davis helped Dad read the paper.  He was giving his Sophie a thorough whomping.  It was funny watching him react each time he made her squeak!

Cal (and his mama) has a tremendous sweet tooth.  We let him pick out the box of cake mix he wanted to use and although we steered him towards carrot cake he went for the Double Chocolate Fudge mix with chocolate frosting.  I must say.....it was delish!!!

Anyone want a cupcake?  Cal promises he hasn't licked the spoon!

Our Ollie girl is so sweet.  She just seeks out ways to give our boys kisses.  Usually she goes for Davis's open mouth, but she settled for his hand this time.

Amber (Fort) Wolking was on her way to Garden City and stopped by to say hi.  Our boys were born 5 days apart!  The strange part is that we and our other college friend, Brooklyn, were all due on the same day and we all had boys!  Hayes Wolking is a LONG baby boy and so happy!   I look forward to the day that we three can get all of our babies together.

Davis LOVED looking in the mirror with Mimi!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!  Davis must hate holiday-themed shirts because he spoils them each time.  He destroyed his Valentine's Day shirt with a diaper explosion and he had a trifecta of grossness in his St. Paddy's outfit.  I'll spare you the details, but I spot cleaned and dried his outfit three times until there was no saving it.  You win, D-man....you win.

Grandma wore the shirt she bought while we were in Ireland in 2004!

We went to the park one afternoon, but it was sooooo windy that we didn't stay long.  Cal had fun running around and testing out all the equipment during our short stay, though.

I found this slide to be slightly frightening.  It felt like a drop straight down.  I'm 6' tall and 32 years old.....not a 2 year old munchkin....and I'm here to admit that I was a bit nervous.   Don't worry guys, I made it out alive.  Barely.

We went to the JUCO Basketball Tournament with my folks and Grandma on March 18th.  The boys did so well.  Cal loved watching the game, playing the iPad, running the halls, eating popcorn, etc.  Davis was content being held and he even slept for a considerable amount of time, despite the loud buzzers and crowd!  He is such an easy-going guy.

Before the games, we went to Bogeys for lunch.  I love this place.  Since I was 5 or 6, we've always gone to Bogeys when we're in town for the JUCO tourney.  The malts are unbeatable!!

This was taken before I even pulled out of the parking lot!

We got home and ate a quick dinner.  Then it was off to bed....long day!

Cal was so sweet when I told him we were going home to see his Daddy and doggies.  He said, "I can't WAIT to see my Daddy!!!!"  His Daddy felt the same way.
