Come Sunday the 24th, I was still recovering from the flu and our late night trip to the Birthing Center for false labor, so Mitch was on Cal duty all day. They had so much fun and Daddy even cooked up a special dinner for his little helper.
Mom took Monday off to come help me recover and to help entertain Cal since he didn't have school that day. We ran to Target for some Christmas shopping. Davis was more than ready to make his debut.....can you tell?! He was so low!!
Cal helped me finish decorating the tree. We went and picked out his special Christmas ornament....a fire truck! Since then I've had to buy him an actual fire truck toy car to play with so he'd leave his ornament on the tree. :)
This is how he spent 30 minutes of our time in the Hallmark store that day. I thought it was cute and it allowed me to browse. I won't speculate how the other customers might've felt about his cacophony of noise.
I had had contractions all through the night on Monday, but nothing too strong or timeable. When I got up on Tuesday, I ran a few errands and came home at noon, which is when they got stronger. I took a Tylenol and a bath, but that didn't ease the pain. Eventually, I called Mitch at work and told him that I thought it was real this time. I was supposed to go to my OB that day at 4pm, but we went straight to to the Birthing Center instead. They broke my water and started the first of two epidurals. The first didn't take on my right side in my back....not good for back labor! About 4 hours later, Davis was born!
Nurse: "We've got a 9 pounder!"
Me: "Ummm, excuse me? What?"
9lbs 3oz
20" long
(It was PJ DAY at school that day.) Cal came by on Wednesday after school to meet his baby brother. He kind of peeked into the room with a smile and asked where Davis was, then broke into a big smile when he saw him. I pulled him onto the bed with us and he got a good look at Davis.....then wanted to pet and kiss him. :)
Davis was very busy the day after his birth and bought Cal some Big Brother gifts: a puzzle, a big bulldozer, and a coloring book.....all relatively quiet toys. :)
Going home!!
Mimi and Papa stayed with Cal while we were at the hospital. Cal was in heaven. He later told me that "Mimi and Papa were funny. Papa bought me Gatorade. That was nice of Papa."
Out of nowhere, Donnie nearly jumped into the bassinet to smell Davis!
My folks left on Thanksgiving once we got home. Uncle Bryan and Grandma were making the feast and they had to get back to eat. Mitch whipped up a delicious meal for us. The turkey breast was SO GOOD!! I only made the mashed potatoes and he cooked everything else. We may need to explore his culinary talents more often! Cal was pretty excited about the pumpkin pie....and whipped cream. :)
What do you do with a head strong 2 year old that won't go inside to potty, despite showing obvious signs that he needs to? This.....you just bribe him with going in the yard.
Davis wasn't a huge fan of the bath, but enjoyed snuggling in his warm blankie afterwards!
