I'm not a die hard Oprah fan, but I like her enough. This quote spoke to me, though. I don't know if my expectations have changed now that I have two kids and no time to worry about every little thing, but to me this quote serves as a reminder that we all make mistakes, strive to be better, beat ourselves up, etc........but the beauty of life is that we're all works in progress. Nobody is perfect.
Onto a lighter note.....this quote also spoke to me:
I took this picture on 12/31/14 right before Mitch walked out the door for the Alamo Bowl. The boys and I stayed home and had 4 days of mom and son(s) time.
This sweet dog is so laid back. She lets Davis crawl and lay on her, with just a minimal growl followed immediately by an apologetic lick. She's the sweetest.
The Gillespie girls were our dates for NYE! Kristin and I took the kids to El Agave for dinner. They were pretty well behaved and we enjoyed catching up! Her husband, Travis, went to the Bowl with Mitch and Paul.
Davis wasn't very excited about the highchair, but once in my lap, he ate pretty well. Cal eats Mexican food so well and gobbled his plate up.
On New Year's Day, we woke up and I was trying to read emails at the table. Both boys came over and demanded some attention. Cal is VERY interested in spelling and reading. He would say a word and then I'd make the sound for the letter.....then he'd type it! We spelled, "mommy, daddy, cal, davis, dog, van". Davis sat on my lap and was content to be in on the action, while devouring some yogurt raisins.
Later that morning, the Gillespie girls came over and the kids played for a solid 2 hours!
Avery turns 1 in a few days and Ella is a month older than Cal. It's so fun having such good friends with kids the same ages!
Even after the solid morning of play, Cal refused to nap! He's kind of phasing out of them, although we know he still requires some rest because he gets zombie-like by the day's end.
His new thing to say to me (while pretending to be mad) is, "You're not the only mommy in this house!" lol. I think he hears the girls play house/dolls at school?!?! I don't know, but it makes me laugh.
Later that day, I took them to DQ for some ice cream. Davis thought it was hilarious that Cal was sharing his ice cream with him. He couldn't believe his good luck!
Cal loves to tell me stories about Snuffleupagus. He changes the setting and details with each story. Usually at bedtime, if I lay with him. we create stories back and forth about Snuffleupagus's adventures.
Davis discovered the joy of olive fingers at dinner one night!
Cal joined in on the olive fun!
I was cleaning up the table and looked into the living room to see our little dare devil doing this. Awesome. It's probably safe, right?
I remember Cal doing something similar, actually!
The next day, we went to My Gym with the Gillespie girls.....who else would we hang out with?!?! lol
After naps, the boys did some painting. It was terribly cold outside, so we were hunkered down indoors and looking for things to do. Oh and yes, they're wearing the same outfits because I thought the game was on the 1st. It was on the 2nd, so I washed them that night and they wore them again the next day!
You can't really tell in this pic, but Cal has started sticking his tongue out of his mouth when he's concentrating while writing/drawing/painting. Apparently that's an inherited trait because Mitch did it as a child, too!
Check out Davis's left handed painting abilities. :) (Mitch is cheering while reading this.)
The painting quickly turned into painting themselves, their mommy, and the floor. We wrapped things up and headed for the bathtub!
He gave himself a questionable look......resembles a certain famous German villain, don't you think?
Here's a pic of the KSU Crew at the Alamo! They met Dad and Tony in San Antonio and a great time was had by all!
Dad and Mike, aka "The Bobs"......they're hysterical together!
Mitch got home late on the 3rd. It started snowing and blowing horribly on their drive home, but thankfully they arrived safely. The next morning, we played inside with the boys and they sported their capes from Gma and Gpa Walter!
After naps, we bit the bullet and played in the snow. It was our obligatory snow outing......BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
